Electronics are exhausting

There are days where my kids are just total train wrecks and when I think about what they did that day I realize they didn’t do anything but sit and play on their iPad or Nintendo. I look at their little faces and realize they are just completely exhausted.

I find myself complaining fairly often that I’m exhausted and when I look back on my day I’m like why am I so tired I didn’t anything overly physical. Sure I worked my full day was in and our of meetings but the truth is that I sent that whole time staring at screens. Most days I finish and don’t even know what day of the week it is.

The terrible part is these days you have to make a conscious effort to get away from electronics. Our phones are mini computers. I take a day off of work and I still find myself working because the messages come to my phone and when I see nobody is answering or helping I am always willing to jump in and try to help out.

This wasn’t an issue when I was a kid because we didn’t have anything but a phone on the wall and maybe a gaming system that hooked to the TV and we didn’t own a computer until I was in my early teens. We played outside, rode bikes to the neighbors, played in the mud, had pickup games of baseball in the yard. Sure we got tired but it was a different kind of tired.

As of late I have found myself telling my boys that I want them to live more in the real world then the made up world that exists inside their devices. That being said I can’t figure out where to draw that fine line. Do I simply say “Ok you can only have them in the car or at your dad’s if he permits you to have them?” Do I reduce their time limits on both devices? They have officially hit the age where all their friends are also playing and they don’t want to be left out.

Side Hustles

In today’s society it seems like everyone has a side hustle and I think that’s totally great! I love buying from my friends and local small businesses! The truth is you get a better shopping experience from small businesses because they have more on the line, you often get more attention, better problem solving and better customer service all because the truth is we want to make our customers happy!

I have several but am terrible about getting my name out there or being vocal in what I sell. Not because I don’t love what I have the option to sell but because I feel like my time is limited and I don’t feel like I can dedicate the time that I feel they deserve.

I’m gonna take a minute to talk about the business I technically own and why I love them!

Beachbody

I’ve been a Beachbody Coach for going on 2 years, I love the program and when I’m committed my results are amazing! My mom joined me on this journey about a year in and has been doing amazing. She kicks my butt at staying committed and following thru! I feel like there is a workout for everyone available on BOD and my kids have even done some of the kids programs and best of all I don’t have to leave my house to work out! My family is number one and one of my biggest issues with having to go to the gym is that it takes that much more time away from my family to have to drive to and from and honestly I just don’t have the time in our busy schedule right now.

Norwex & Doterra

When the twins were born I became even more obsessed with what I put in and on my body. I have super sensitive skin and for a while spent a ton of time and money at the dermatologist due to terrible reactions to deodorant and shaving cream. Because of this I started looking for natural solutions which lead me to essential oils and Norwex which allow me to clean my home without chemicals.

My Norwex business can be found at https://jadegraham.norwex.biz and if you have questions about Doterra don’t hesitate to message me.

Zyia

After my sister in law introduced me to Zyia I was instantly hooked! The leggings fit my long legs and stay put while I work out. Then came covid and honestly I’m lucky if I make it into real clothes most days but no worries because my workout/comfy clothes are super cute and acceptable to wear in public!

I primarily manage my Zyia business thru my Facebook VIP group where I am constantly posting updates about products and running giveaways monthly.

If you would like more info about any of the above products/services please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at krazyachers@gmail.com

Kids and Gaming

The twins have been playing games on their electronics for a long time without much thought from me as a parent. I always check the age rating when they ask for new games and often say no based on reviews and ratings. As they get older they are getting more and more into multiplayer games and frankly that is opening up a scary new world.

I fought the requests for a long while but it got to a point that it’s hard to say no when the games they are asking for are played by all their friends. We did research and selectively approved games. Their dad even plays several of the games with them.

These games all have chat features and we have talked to the kids in the past about what kind of information can and can’t be shared on the internet. School covers it as well in their technology class. So imagine my surprise when I overheard my 9 year old telling some random person on the internet “I can’t play with you when my dad is around or I will get in trouble because I don’t know you in real life”!

This serves as a reminder that kids are kids they will always push boundaries and as parents we must always monitor and protect our kids from the scary world around us. I had a long talk with the boys about being sure to use their friends screen names and reminding them that while they are talking to their friends on these games there may be others in the game overhearing their conversation trying to find out things about them for all the wrong reasons!

February at Krazy Achers

February in northwestern PA is cold! That means we are bundling up often, checking the fire and making sure the animals have plenty of bedding and making sure the water pans don’t freeze! But all things must continue when you have animals on the farm!

Zyia

I’m so exited to have joined this amazing company! You may remember that previous post about their leggings Legging Review where I talked about what I love about them and posted pictures of myself in them!

The leggings became a staple in my wardrobe last year because why put on anything else when you are rarely leaving the house! But more than that I loved them while I was coaching baseball to years ago because they stayed put and I was still able to keep my phone on me because of the pockets. I also have several pairs of their shorts that I love and their joggers are amazing! I can dress them up for date night or down for just hanging out with kids!

I’m hosting my launch party on the 28th on Facebook, drop me a comment if you would like to be added!

2021 Farm Goals

Every year between Christmas and New Years I sit down with my farm journal and write out a set of goals for myself for the year. I also have the kids pick 3 things they want to work on for the year. I feel like 2020 was a year of reflection. We didn’t move anything forward really just maintained and worked the kinks out of a few things. All that being said this year I want to try some new things and am taking a break from others as a result.

Cows

Pigs

  • Nothing really new with the pigs.
  • We started a new batch of pigs in December that will go to the butcher the first of April.
  • Will evaluate from there and determine if we want to do another batch.

Goats

  • We sold Hot Chocolate and Brown Sugar in the fall of 2020 in preparation for winter.
  • December 1st we put Lovey and Jazzi in with Turbo to be bred
  • We will likely sell whatever babies we get. Need to decide if we should sell them earlier or we want to continue with the fall sales.

Chickens

  • We are taking at least a year off from meat chickens at least at the production level
  • We have rats in the chicken coop that are driving me absolutely crazy. So hopefully taking a season off we can get rid of the rats.
  • Will move all the birds out to the large outdoor run from like Memorial Day to at least Labor Day.

Chukars

  • Trying something new and this is the boys project.
  • Will build a raised 8’x15′ flight pen with a 4′ covered section for feeding and watering inside of the existing run.
  • Will need to figure out a way to block under the flight pen off at times

Orchard

  • Need to replace some of the fences around the trees using cattle panels
  • Need to mulch around the trees
  • Need to sign up for chip drop for the mulch needs
  • Will plant the vining vegetables in that garden again since they did well there with the fence around it.

Garden

  • Need to put more thought into how to use the raised bed space most effectively
  • I think I want to do a tunnel trellis with a cattle panel

Greenhouse

  • Use the windows in the chicken coop and build a permanent greenhouse.
  • Gravel the floor
  • Reuse any of the frame that we can for shelves

2021 Healthy Living Kickoff

I’ve been busy planning for 2021 in my healthy living group. I can’t say how much I love the woman in this group for all the support they give me and each other! I love seeing their victories! I try to keep an eye on my Facebook feed as we go through the holiday season and send out invites. I encourage all you ladies to not hesitate to reach out if you are interested in joining and invite your female friends!

Steps Challenges

We will continue to do monthly steps challenges using StrideKick. The team steps challenges seem to be much better received than the individual challenges. We will likely continue with mostly team challenges as it gives everyone a better chance at winning a prize. Remember to friend me on StrideKick username @JadeGraham

Daily Challenges

We will continue the daily meal posts as they seem to get the highest response from our members. Remember your meals don’t always have to be healthy, it’s more about paying attention to what you are eating!

We will also have other daily challenges to complete some focusing on mental health others, on physical health and some to help the communities around us and give back!

Weight Loss Challenges

There will be 6 weight loss challenges (4 – 8 week challenges and 2 – 6 week challenges) throughout the year each weight loss challenge will cost $5 to participate in the person from each challenge that has the highest weight loss percentage at the end of the challenge will win the pot.

Bonus challenge: 2021 Biggest Loser

  • Participate in each of the 8 weight loss challenges
  • Weigh in on Jan 1st and Dec 31st
  • Whoever loses the highest overall percentage for 2021 will get a special prize from me! For those that haven’t been in the group for long you never know what I might throw in the prize bin. I have done fitness trackers, t-shirts, mugs, jewelry, etc. in the past!

Healthy Living Reality Check

As I look back at 2020 and reflect on my healthy living goals I honestly can’t say that I succeeded at meeting any of them. I have yo-yoed losing and gaining the same 10 lbs over and over again! December of 2019 brought me a dermatology diagnosis that I didn’t like and it was made very clear that the stress in my life was only making my health issues worse.

I did so well working out at the beginning of the year! But then Covid hit followed closely by the stress of admitting my marriage was over and I stopped sleeping. Once I stopped sleeping I completely lost my ability to get up for morning workouts. During all this I went through several med changes for the dermatology issue (some of which made me completely exhausted) and even had to resort to steroid injections to get things under control.

While I don’t feel that I met any of the goals I set I feel like parts of my health have improved significantly! I feel that my mental health is in a much better place than it has been in years. I have improved my self care practices and am much more honest with those around me about what I need and want. Because of this my anxiety is finally getting better.

The truth about healthy living is that we all fall on our ass! I do it constantly and the guilt I feel about letting people down sometimes gets the best of me. But, other days I get messages that remind me that while I might not be succeeding every day I’m still motivating others and helping them. It’s those days that kick my ass back into gear!
